Kaçkar Mountains

Kaçkar Mountain Range is the easternmost section of North Anatolia Mountain; known as Pontic Alps. Kaçkar stretches about 1000 km from east to west. Extension of Caucasus; Kaçkar is the most bio-diverse areas in Turkey. Richness of flora and fauna, glaciers and lakes, untouched valleys and rivers can be seen all summer around during the walks. Not only the natural beauties bu also the ethnicity of the area is giving us a chance to explore more.

ITINERARY

DAY 1 Meet tour guide and transfer to the pension. (2hrs)

We meet our tour guide and driver at Trabzon airport. Then drive to our pension in Çamlıhemşin. We are going to spend the night in Xano village where ‘Laz’ people leaves. ‘LAZ’ are friendly and welcoming people who are indigenous ethnic people with their own Kartvelian language, that you may never heard of.

Depending of arrival time we may have a visit to the main attractions of Trabzon city (Church of Hagia Sophia OR Sumela Monastery).

DAY 2 Kavrun - Olgunlar Walk (13km / +1000 -1200 meters / 7-8 hrs)

After having our early breakfast at our family run pension we will be shuttled to Kavrun village. Our walk will start from 2250 meters where Kavrun summer pasture is located. Our path will ascend up to 2920 meters. In asunny day you can even swim in the glacier lakes of Kavrun.

After having a short break we will continue walking up to ‘Lanetleme Pass’; Border between south and north. Here is the beginning of our gradual descend down to Olgunlar village. Dinner and overnight at village pension.

DAY 3 Yaylalar - Modut Walk (9km / +400 - 700 meters / 4-5 hrs)

This will be one of the most panoramic day of our trip. The views of Kaçkar, Bulut, Kemerli Kaçkar and Marsis Mountains will be the highlights of our trip. We will follow a steep climb and gradual descend on a soft path until we meet our driver.

Dinner and overnight at pension.

DAY 4 Olgunlar - Dilberdüzü Campsite Walk (9km / +900 meters / 3-4 hrs)

This is a moderate walk and gradual ascend to base camp of Kaçkar Mountain. Dinner and overnight at campsite.

DAY 5 Optional Summit Climb (11km / +1100 -1100 meters / 10-12 hrs)

After having an early breakfast. we are heading to Kaçkar Mountain; is the highest peak of Kaçkar Mountain range. The path will take us to the deepest and biggest glacier lake of Kaçkar. The best photos can be taken early in morning. After a short break we will head to skirts of main mass of Kaçkar Mountain. The last section up to summit will be a stony path.

The same route will take us back to the camp site. On a sunny day another option to swim in the deepest lake of Kaçkar area.

DAY 6 Dilberdüzü Campsite - Olgunlar Walk (9km / -900 meters / 3-4 hrs)

After having an easy walk back to our pension, we will have a rest.

DAY 7 Karamolla - Palakçur Walk (14km / +1100 -1300 meters 7-8 hrs)

We are crossing the range from south to north to meet our driver at Palakçur village. We will have an relaxing afternoon at hot springs of Ayder. Then move on to our pension to have a farewell dinner with local music.

DAY 8 Tour ends. Transfer to airport (2hrs)

We drive to Trabzon airport.

    Challenging. Good level of fitness is required.
    Optional summit climb; on a stony path with steep slopes.

    5 nights at the pension or hotels and 2 nights camping.

  • Length

    6-8 hours of walk. Summit day; 9-11 hours walk. Max. altitude is 3937 meter.
    Average elevation gain / loss; +/- 900 meters

  • Equipment

    Trekking boots, 30-40 liters of rucksack, sun cream, sun hat, good quality rain gear, walking sticks, sleeping bags and personal equipment should be prepared by the participants.

  • Meals

    Breakfast and dinners will be at the pension or hotels and camp site.
    Picnic lunches to be prepared and shared by the participants before the walk.

  • Luggage

    Each participant should have a day pack to carry water, lunch stuff and personal items. The luggage will be transported to the pension or hotels by our vehicle.
    Each participant should bring a separate bag to prepare their camping gears for camping which will be transported by our company (15 liters each)
