Eastern Lycian Way

Lycian Way eastern route starts from Bey Dağları National Park ascend to the ridges of Mt Olympos 1950 mts.It follows the mountain route along the villages and dips towards  the dramatic coast line of mediterranean and finishes at the famous Gelidonia lighthouse.The tour offers you a spectecular hike through the nomadic villages and the ruins of Lycian cities.

ITINERARY

Day 1 Meet tour guide and transfer to the hotel in old town.(30mins)

Depending on your arrival time we have optional old city tour. Old town(Kaleiçi) has always been the heart of the sprawling modern city.Roman city remains and Ottoman style houses create its unique charecter.We walk along narrow lanes and explore major parts of the town.Overnight in Antalya.

Day 2 In the morning we have a transfer to Göynük (45mins)

We start to walk from the Bey Dağları National Park.The protected park is home of rich flora and animals such as lynx,wolf,wild goats and imperial eagle.The undulating route take us through the heavly wooded pine forest up to the ridges and ascend to high pasture of Göynük with the spectacular view of the green pastures and Antalya Gulf.We have a picnic lunch by the river bed.Depending on the rainfall there may be water which enable us to swim after lunch .We finish the walk at the dirt road and transfer to Ovacık for overnight stay.

Day 3 Today we start to walk from the hotel.

We take the downhill path to the road where we finished yesterday.Continue on the mountain road by the shepherd houses and descend to Gedelme.We have lunch in a local restaurant in the village.Then visit a Roman castle reamins and centuries old plaine trees nearby.Afternoon walk is a gradually uphill to Yayla Kuzdere village on a dirt road.When we get closer to the village, north face of Mount Olympos burst into the sight and welcomes us.Overnight in a village house in the town.(depending on the availablity of the village house we may stay at the pansion in Gedelme)

Day 4 We start the walk from the village.

We have a constant ascend through the cedar forest and partly on the stream bed to the higher pasture Cukur Yayla.In the spring snowmelt cascades down to the valley and with the surrounding flora it forms an alpine landscape.Here,nomads pasture theirs sheep and goats in the summer and return to coastal towns in the winter.These nomads are called Yörük who were the earliest Turks arrived from central asia in the 11. century. We have lunch here.Then we descend to Beycik from the pass of Mount Olympos.By zig-zaging on the mule path we reach to Beycik and meet our driver.We drive to Çıralı where we stay 2 nights.(30mins drive)

Day 5 Walk from Ulupınar to Çıralı,see the flames of Chimera and visit Olympos ancient site.(2hrs/7km/ascend 200 mt/descend 320mt/6km)

We have a short drive to Ulupınar.(15 mins)We start the walk from the local fish restaurants.The route takes us through the village houses down to the stream then it undulates towards to the eternal flames of Chimera. Having been in existence for 3 thousand years,its thought to be the first torch of Olympic games.Actually,the vents emit methane (90%)We meet our driver and drive to Olympos.After lunch we visit the ruins of the glomorous city of a time.It was one of the six leading cities of Lycian League which is considered as the first democratic union.Owing to its location Olympos becomes a stronghold of pirates and is dismissed from the league.City is divided by Akçay river which was navigable for trade ships, remains are  scattered both sides of the river.Olympos beach is one of the nesting spots of Caretta Caretta loggerhead sea turtles.After city exploration,we have a chance to dip into turquoise water before we head back to the hotel.Stay at the same pension in Çıralı.

Day 6 Walk from Olympos to Adrasan bay(6hrs/ascend 750mt/descend 750 mt/16km)

Today we have a short transfer to Olympos beach and we start from the necropolis of the city.We have a steady climb through the forest covered with Turkish pine and mediterranean strawberry trees to Mt Moses.We have lunch break at the top enjoying the scenery overlooking the fields and green houses.We walk down on a smooth pine needle blanket path to Adrasan bay.It is a tranquil town popular among Turkish holiday makers.We can relieve the tiredness at the beach after the walk.2 nights stay at the pension.

Day 7 Walk from Adrasan to Gelidonia Lighthouse (7hrs/ascend 700 mt/descend 680 mt/18km)

After a short drive(10mins) we start to walk from an old camel farm.The path starts to climb diagonally through the pine forest with glimpses of the  Adrasan bay and winds its way over the ridges parallel to coast line.It is probably the most spectacular part of the Lycian Way with the sea and islands view all along the route.Beautiful cyclamens decorate the path in the spring.We descend to Gelidonia Lighthouse and enjoy the breathtaking scenery.The lighthouse was built in 1936.Its powered by clockwork and bottled gas.With five islands at the background Gelidonia Lighthouse has become the symbol of the Lycian Way.We meet our bus and return to Adrasan.

Day 8 Tour ends.Airport transfer.

We drive to Antalya airport.(1.5 hrs)
